Yet another Scott Walker Lie About the Recall Election

MADISONAnother day, another demonstrable Scott Walker lie about the recall election. One day after more than 1,000,000 Wisconsinites united to submit petitions calling for his ouster, the Associated Press reported that Walker is calling for an election to happen as quickly as possible:

“Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he believes petition circulators have enough valid signatures to force a recall election against him, and he wants it to happen sooner rather than later.”

In the report, Walker states his personal belief that the overwhelming number of signatures submitted virtually guarantees a recall election. (Petitioners filed at least 185% of the signatures needed to trigger the recall.)

Yet it is Walker and his agents who are preventing that from happening. The Wall Street Journal reported today – under the headline “Wisconsin Recall Drive Reaches Republican Hurdle” – that a court order won by attorneys acting on behalf of Walker appear to have effectively delayed the election already, and that additional legal challenges may push it even further into the future.

“Scott Walker lied his way into office, and is once again lying to the people of Wisconsin about wanting a speedy recall election,” said We Are Wisconsin executive director Kristen Crowell. “Walker can immediately put an end to what even he acknowledges are futile legal challenges that serve no purpose but to extend the loophole allowing him to raise unlimited sums of sleazy corporate cash from Wall Street and Texas billionaires. He won’t because he’s lying.”
